Finances Are A Major Safety Issue For Truckers
Trucking safety has been an ongoing battle for years, and is as hot an issue today as it has ever been. Truckers face mounting pressure to drive more, sleep less and risk big. Accidents are not the only thing truckers have to worry about. The dangers of trucking stretch far beyond the road. In the past few years there have been many issues involving unsafe rest stops. Some resting points have much lighting, are more populated and safer, but the pressure to drive forces many truckers to spend the night at stops with safety issues. Many of these truckers are harassed, robbed and have even been killed.
A lot of these issues come down to money management and finances. In doing the research for this post I scoured through numerous "how to relieve stress" posts for the trucking industry, and only say a couple that even mentioned finances.
We understand that some truckers manage their money very well and are simply victims of an industry that is being squeezed. Trucker's that aren't properly managing their finances are doing more than risking their business. Their risking their safety.
Finances and Safety
It's no secret that financial problems are the number one cause of stress, and stress creates accidents. This alone should be enough to motivate any trucker to keep a better eye on their expenditures. Financial problems also create fatigue. If you have to increase your driving by 20% to make up for poor finnces, you're going to be driving fatigued more often. This extra driving is also more likely to land you at a sketchy rest stop instead of signing out a little earlier at a safer alternative.
